This is where I will complain, whine, and brag about my undergraduate work and veterinary experience as I approach time to apply to vet school!!

How do you feel about working on live animals that are not going to saved after surgery? Today was the first day of classes of the Spring 2004 semester at URI where I'm a sophomore. In my animal development class my professor announced that we would be sacrificing live animals in lab in order to run experiments on them. He mentioned that if any one in the class had any ethical/sensitive stomach problems that he/she should come talk to him after the lecture. I won't need to talk to him abo...

I think I've worked pretty hard to get to where I am, and I'm sure I'll be able to say that when I'm in vet school. Feeling this way, I don't think that people who are cheating deserve to be held in the same light as those who are actually studying their lives away. I'm not a tattle-tail, but I couldn't let a cheating student get away with cheating on a test that numerous other people are taking honestly. I'd confront the student and let them know that I knew that he was cheating. He'd h...

Do you think medicine is an art or a science? Hmm, this is definitely a tough one. art-the creation of beautiful or thought-provoking works science- any activity that is the object of careful study or that is carried out according to a developed method I mean, in a way, medicine is an art. I think it's artistic when a doctor can analyze a client's health, diagnose the patient with a condition using that analyzation, and then treat the condition with medication. It's definitely someth...

I've got plenty of weaknesses, I think everyone does. But when you ask someone "what's your biggest weakness?" it's hard for them to answer right away. It's kinda like when someone asks you what you want for your birthday. Sure, there are plenty of things you want/need, but when you are put on the spot to think of something your mind goes blank. After crying on the phone with my boyfriend this evening, expressing feelings of loneliness and confusion, I realized one of my biggest personal f...

Sooo, here are some things I learned about myself and the profession at work last night... #1--I've decided that I blabber uncontrollably. When an emergency comes in and I have to breif the doctor on why they're here, I seem to spit out segements of sentences that might make sense when you put them all together. I think it's just nervousness. When I go on vet school interviews (if I'm invited to any) I'll be able to use this as a weakness. It's curable, right? Like last night for exa...

What would you do if you accidentally injected an animal that was likely to die anyway with euthanasia solution instead of painkiller and killed the animal? Would you tell the truth to the owner? The step up is you are working overnight in a hospital alone with a lot of sick animals and you are rushing. What am I supposed to say to that? Get myself fired and in trouble by telling the owner?! (umm, lawsuit) Hide it to myself and possibly hav someone find out that I killed the pet?! (not...
